New Families and First Day Instructions

New Families

As your family is getting ready for Kindergarten or another grade at Seth Boyden, we would like to extend a warm welcome. We are the Seth Boyden PTA and it is our goal to make your family’s transition to Seth Boyden smooth and delightful. We are excited about our school and believe that your family will be happy here too.

We organize many events throughout the year to help you and your child(ren) feel welcome and excited to be part of our community. Please review the calendar.

We know that being part of a new school community can be intimidating and confusing, so we are eager to help you feel at home quickly. The best way to meet people and feel involved and invested is to volunteer for a committee or activity. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact our PTA by using the form on the homepage.

If you haven’t done so already, please sign up for our newsletter and follow us on Facebook.

We look forward to meeting you and your family and working alongside of you to make Seth Boyden the best possible place for all of us!

First Day Instructions

The following information will help you and your family to prepare for your first day at Seth Boyden.

Drop off  and pick up

Our procedures have changed for the 2015-16 school year. Find out everything you need to know here.

What To Send To School

The list of items below will help your child to be comfortable during the school day:

Backpack

Roomy enough to transport snack, lunch, and important papers/homework to and from school, but not so big that your child struggles with it. Be sure that your child can open and close his/her backpack (and lunch box) by himself/herself (practice at home). Please check your child’s backpack every day.

Labels

Put your child’s name on his/her lunchbox, snack containers, backpack, jacket, sweaters, etc. Any unlabeled lost items will be put in the “Lost and Found” located in the cafeteria.

Healthy Snack

If your child’s teacher advises you that she/he includes time for snack during the day, please send a healthy snack for your child to eat. Healthy snack ideas include: fruit, cheese, crackers, dried fruit, yogurt, etc. We encourage students to eat their own snack so please make sure they have enough things they will eat. PLEASE AVOID SENDING: gum, candy, soda, cookies, other sugary items, chips, etc.

Lunch

You can send a lunch with your child or buy a District prepared lunch. Your child may qualify to receive this lunch free or at a reduced rate. The forms to qualify for a free or reduced cost lunch will be sent home the first week of school. The District will send home a monthly menu. The menu is available on their website.

NO CASH is accepted in the District’s Elementary program. To participate in the lunch program you must open an EZ Lunch Account.

While children are with Lunch Monitors at lunch, it is not possible to monitor what your child eats, or throws away. A helpful strategy is to involve your child in the food selection process. Please make sure your child can open his/her lunch containers.
