Celebrate MLK Day with a Nature’s Cake

From Seth Boyden Garden Teacher Mrs. Tuohy:

Make a batch of homemade playdough (recipe below).

Gather beautiful objects from nature. Decorate the play dough with the natural objects while reflecting on and celebrating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Simple homemade play dough recipe:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup salt
  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar (optional)
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • food coloring (optional)
  • ziploc bag, plastic wrap, or airtight container to store

Method

  1. Stir together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar (if using it) in a large pot.
  2. Add the water and oil. If you are adding the optional food coloring, add it now.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly. Continue stirring until the dough has thickened and begins to form a ball.
  4. Remove from heat and place on another nonstick surface to cool slightly.
  5. Knead until smooth and roll into balls. Cover with plastic wrap, place in a ziploc bag, or store in an airtight container.

PTA End Of Year Cookie Drive

cookie exchangeThe Seth Boyden PTA is collecting cookies to present to all Seth Boyden staff members as a way of saying thanks for a great first semester.

Cookies need to be delivered to school on Wednesday, Dec. 20, by 9am. You can also drop off cookies the night before at Kelly Villanueva’s house.

We will also need volunteers to help package the cookies on that Wednesday morning from 8:45-11.

Sign up to bring or package cookies on SignUpGenius, and email Kelly ([email protected]) if you are dropping off at her house on Tuesday night.

Thank in advance for helping out!

Coordinate Our Cookies!

cookie exchangeThe PTA is looking for a Holiday Cookie Coordinator to manage one of our community’s best holiday traditions.

The PTA distributes a box of holiday cookies to every Seth Boyden staff member, including our crossing guards. To make this happen, we need a coordinator to organize cookie donations and a party to package them up.

We plan to deliver the boxes on Dec. 20, so it’s time to get started. If you want the job, please contact [email protected]
