Musical Will Be Disney’s Aladdin Jr.!

Aladdin Jr. logo horizontal

We are excited to announce that Seth Boyden’s fifth graders will be presenting Disney’s Aladdin Jr. from June 12 to June 14.

Please join the PTA in welcoming our new director, Vanessa Jones! Ms. Jones’s experience ranges from performing on Broadway to teaching and directing students at NJPAC, and we are thrilled to have her at Seth Boyden! Fifth-grade families can expect to receive information about the show and auditions in the coming weeks. This year’s production will have action, adventure, and maybe even a rapping genie! Please encourage your students to participate.

As always, we need lots of help to make the show a success! We have volunteer opportunities for everyone—whether you have always wanted to know what goes on backstage, or you’re a theater expert hoping to share your knowledge and skills with the next generation. There are jobs big and small, and all are important for this year’s fifth graders to shine!

Please visit this signup genius link or contact Heather Heinnickel at [email protected] to tell us how you can help!

‘Beauty and the Beast Jr.’ – Information on This Year’s Musical

We will keep this page up to date with all of the latest information about this year’s Seth Boyden musical, “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” If you have questions or want to volunteer, please contact Kelly Heinze at [email protected]!

Performers

Beauty and the Beast Jr.Updated to reflect changes due to snow delays and days

Mandatory auditions have been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 5, and Wednesday, March 6, from 3:15 to 5:30pm, and we are now holding callback auditions on Monday, March 11, also from 3:15 to 5:30pm. You will get a call on Thursday if your child is needed on Monday as well. Three important notes:

  • Auditions are mandatory for speaking or singing roles
  • Some students will get speaking/singing roles without a callback audition
  • Every student who auditions will be in the play

Crew

Those interested in crew jobs only need to attend the crew meeting on Wednesday, March 6, with Ms. Holly Raye. She will meet with them at 3:15, and dismissal will be sometime between 4:30 and 5:30. We will make sure students are able to contact parents for pick up.

Forms

All forms must be filled out as soon as possible.

Volunteers

We need volunteers to build a set and work on our stage artwork. This was a huge part of the success of last year’s Lion King performance, and we know that this year’s fifth grade parents don’t want to be outdone. If you have carpentry/set design/painting skills, please come forward and help!

Help Us Make ‘Beauty and the Beast Jr.’ a Hit!

Beauty and the Beast Jr.This year’s 5th Grade Musical will be “Beauty and the Beast Jr.,” and we are looking for parent volunteers to help us make the show a success.

The performance will be in late May, but the planning is beginning now. As most of you know, this is one of the biggest events of your student’s years at Seth Boyden, so we need lots of parent involvement. It’s also one of the most fun and rewarding volunteer opportunities you can find; just ask the parents who made “The Lion King” such a smash hit last year.

Kelly Heinze will once again be our director, and we need lots of budding stage moms and dads to help produce the show, manage the cast, design and build the sets, run the lights and technology, document some rehearsals and performances with photos and video, coordinate paperwork and equipment with the district, and more.

If you are interested in signing up to help in any way, please contact [email protected]!

‘The Lion King Jr.’ — That’s a Wrap!

Lion King Jr.
Check our Facebook page for more photos by Anna Herbst!

‘The Lion King Jr.’ was a truly amazing show, with incredible performances by our kids and Broadway-quality production value. So many people to thank for all of their hard work, starting with Director Kelly Heinze and Producer Amy Goring.

This show would not have been possible without Principal Damion Frye, who worked to include musical theater in our regular school days, which made ‘The Lion King Jr.’ a possibility for many students who otherwise wouldn’t have been able to participate.

Countless others contributed to the success of the show (see the program for names), but other major contributors included:

  • Catherine Martinez, costume design and production
  • Petra Pankow, mask and animal design and production
  • Liz Blazer, digital animation, marketing poster and T-shirt design
  • Peter Vaughan, projection and technical advisor
  • Regina Bradshaw, music and voice coaching
  • Heather Kushner and Joey Meyer, choreography
  • Michael Pankow and Mark Goring, set design and production
  • Sonya and Anthony Artis, props
  • Kim Hammer, makeup
  • Jane Buchanan, ticketing and more
  • Nadine Kerstan, business ads and publicity
  • Leah Van Doornik, chorus class support
  • Claudio DiSilva, lighting
  • Anna Herbst, headshots and photography
  • Holly Raye, microphone tech support
  • Ms. Subbie, organizing the gigantic wildebeest art project
