Our 5th Grade Committee is a crucial part of making our oldest students’ final year at Seth Boyden a memorable one. These dedicated parents help organize special events like the etiquette dinner and dancing classrooms performance, the annual pool party, and the 5th grade musical.
Do you have 15 or more minutes available each, or even every other, week (including right after drop off or before pickup) to help ensure the library is ready for our students? If so, please join the library volunteers group.
Every class at Seth Boyden has one or more “Class Captains.” They’re the parent/guardian leaders, the people who connect with the teacher to plan class parties and volunteering, who organize teacher gifts from the class, and who connect class families to the PTA. It’s an important and fun role!
Please complete the form below if you would like to be a Class Captain for your child’s class. This is a volunteer job you can do from the office or home!
There will be a required Class Captain meeting on Saturday, Oct. 7, at noon in the Seth Boyden cafeteria.
Thank you!
Class Captain Coordinator, Monique Mercury [email protected]
We know it’s summer, but now is the time to check out the volunteer opportunities available for the 2018-19 school year.
Take a look at the available positions and select one that interests you and fits your schedule. From the book fair to field day to fundraising to Harvest Festival and more, we have a job for every skill set and schedule.
We have the opportunity to thank all of the teachers and staff at our school with a delicious luncheon this Tuesday, but we need your help to make this lunch successful and delicious!
We are having some of the food catered but would like to add to the feast with homemade goodies! Please share your cooking and baking talents, your favorite recipes, or your time and sign up to contribute to this well deserved luncheon.
Please join us for the Spring Book Fair from May 1-4 in the upper gym during the following times:
Tuesday, May 1: 9am-3:30pm
Wednesday, May 2: 9am-3:30pm
Thursday, May 3: 9am-4:30pm

We need volunteers to help set up, to assist children in making their purchases, to fill orders and to pack up. Please sign up by Friday, April 27. Don’t worry if you can’t make it for an entire time slot; any time you can spare helps.
Online ordering will be available as well any time at allbookfairs.com. Follow the shopping instructions so Seth Boyden gets credit for your purchase. During the week of the book fair, shipping is free, and all orders will be delivered to school. You can preview the books on your child’s wish list by looking at them on the website.
We need volunteers to prepare pancakes for the 5th graders on their testing week, April 23rd to April 27th. Seth Boyden PTA will be providing the pancake mix, but we’re asking parents to prepare the pancakes at home and bring them to school at drop-off.
We need some help wrapping up two fun projects this weekend, April 21 and 22. If you have any amount of time to help out (no amount is too small), come out and bring the kids!
Eagle Scout Joe Badre built brand new cedar raised garden beds. This weekend we will be helping his troop fill them with soil. We will also be finalizing the new drip-irrigation and installing the garden’s farm bell.
Children’s Arboretum Grand Opening
All 120 trees now have fun-fact tree markers, we have built a new sitting area at the Children’s Arboretum Trailhead in the front of the school. The signage will be mounted this weekend on the trailheads and along the Nature Story Trail.
The cedar timbers for our new garden beds have arrived all the way from Minnesota!
Joe Badre, a Seth Boyden graduate, will prepare and build the garden beds this month with his fellow Boy Scouts for his Eagle Project. The timbers will be stacked together like a log cabin and will last for a very long time!
We need help this Thursday evening from adults able to use a circular saw. We are cutting slats that the scouts will notch out on Saturday in preparation for the BIG BUILD on Saturday, April 21.
Please email Maggie Tuohy ([email protected]) or Matthias Ebinger ([email protected]) if you can lend a hand on any of the following days:
Thursday, April 5, 6:30-8pm GREATEST PRIORITY (bring circular saw if possible)
Kelly Heinze is looking for responsible 4th and 5th Grade students to volunteer for the Variety Show. She needs 4 students for the stage crew, and 2-4 students to serve as emcees.
These students must be available on April 19 from 3:30-6:30pm for the dress rehearsal, and on April 21 from 6:30-9pm for the show. Interested students should see Kelly for a brief “interview” during the April 4 or April 5 rehearsals in the auditorium after school.
Kelly is also looking for parent volunteers, including a stage manager to work with the crew and “herders” to assist students from the audience to back stage.
If you’re interested in any of these spots, please email Kelly at [email protected] ASAP!
We are looking for families to help water our seedlings in the Maplewood greenhouse behind Town Hall.
It only takes five minutes once a week and is extremely important for the survival of the seedlings!
Our children planted seeds during lunch with Maggie Tuohy on Friday, March 16. All plants will be transplanted by our students into the garden in May.
Please email Elizabeth Ebinger ([email protected]) or Maggie Tuohy ([email protected]) if you can commit to one day a week of watering. We will send details to those who volunteer. Here are the times when we’ll be able to water:
Monday: 7pm-9pm
Tuesday: 1pm-4pm
Wednesday (greenhouse is closed)
Thursday: 7pm-9pm
Friday (greenhouse is closed)
Saturday: 9am-4pm
Sunday: 10am-4pm
Thank you to all of you who support the garden in one way or another. It truly takes a village!
Please join us this Saturday, March 3, as we prepare the Seth Boyden Arboretum for its official April launch. We will be installing arboretum tree-marker bricks and plant labels. Bring your kids and they can have a large play date while you help.
This day will involve some light work and some heavy lifting. Many bags of cement are being delivered to the school, so we need all the muscle we can get!
If you have any amount of time to contribute, no matter how small, then sign up on SignUp Genius, and help us spread the word by asking other families to join the fun.
What to bring:
Work gloves (we have child sizes)
Wheelbarrow, optional (email [email protected] if you can bring one)
Do you have a kindergarten student? Do you like lunch? Then boy have we got a job for you!
We are seeking volunteers to help our youngest students during lunch. It’s easy and fun. Just sign up, check in at the front office, grab a visitor’s pass, and head to the cafeteria to have lunch with your child and all their friends.
We will be in contact with you soon after that to confirm your participation. Don’t worry if you can’t spend an entire time slot; any time you can spare helps.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, the fair will run from 9am-3:30pm. On Thursday, Dec. 7, it will run from 9am-4:30pm and Family Fun Night will be 6:30-8:30pm.
Online ordering will be available as well at allbookfairs.com. Follow the shopping instructions so Seth Boyden gets credit for you purchase. During the week of the Book Fair, shipping is free, and all orders are delivered to the school. You can also preview the books on your child’s wish list by looking at them on the website.
